In New York State there are two types of nursing home Medicaid applications. One for a married person and the other for a single person.
When applying for a married person (ill spouse), we can save all of the resources, and some or all of the income depending on the (healthy spouse’s), income.
The more difficult application is for a single person. Most nursing homes will want the applicants to spenddown their resources at the facility; however, there are tools that allow us to protect a good portion of the resources. Unfortunately, applicants are only allowed an income of $50 per month plus pay for their private health insurance if they have any.
